A bit about us and how it all began.

Updated: Mar 15

Firstly I would like to introduce myself…. my Jamie and with my partner we have created Wildlife Boxes. Both my partner and I have been working within the ecology / wildlife management industry for over 15 years, building up a wealth of knowledge on environmental management including individual species requirements related to denning and breeding. Both of us have physically been involved with all species linked to the products featured on the website, either for organisations and trusts in a professional capacity or with groups and like-minded people in our free time.

As well as a trained ecologist I am also a keen BTO ringer during which I have had the privilege of ringing raptors and passerines, in that time we have encountered numerous occasions where we have purchased boxes from other companies and felt that improvements could be made to the designs to improve the longevity but to also provide the best product possible for the nominated species.

Then in early 2022 some good friends of ours who had their own ecology company and also made Pine Marten den boxes came over for a catch up (and most importantly coffee and cake!)

John Martin and his wife Shirley previously made and sold den boxes for over a decade, however the time had come where John & Shirley had decided to wind down the business and were going to stop making den boxes. But were keen for someone to continue providing the service of making den boxes as it is a very important factor where there is a significant lack of natural den sites…. So with feeling that improvements could be made and a nudge from John and Shirley Wildlife Boxes was born.

The aim is that the product list will grow over time but regardless of what species needs a home, the main importance for us at Wildlife Boxes is that we follow our ethos which means any products we produce must be durable, simple and proven.

So….in a nutshell that is how we (Wildlife Boxes) came about!
